Setting up your logo with Evening Shade can be done with two options:

  1. Keeping the existing logo for the theme and using the “Text” based title and the blog description (this is default)
  2. Choosing to use your own logo

Keeping the Existing Logo Graphic

Some may decide to keep the current default logo that comes with the theme and opt in to keep with the text based title and blog description. This is the simple way to just jump right in and begin blogging because everything is automatically added to your site for the logo group.

Using Your Own Logo Graphic with the Text Title

The image part (the circles) is a single graphic that is loaded into the page with the header.php file. You can always change this out for your own image and can be done from around line 38 if you plan to use a different file name (the default logo is named: default-logo.png) but I recommend to make this easier, to keep your own logo with the same file name and extension (png).

The image is a transparent png file and dimensions are: 75 x 54 (pixels) and can be found here:

If you decide to change the title font or styling, both the title and the blog description are done with an H1 tag and an H2 tag, respectively. Styling for these two can be found in the theme’s style.css around line: 34

#logo {width:320px; height:60px; float:left; margin-left:20px; }
#logo h1, #logo h2 {margin:0; padding:0; color:#fff; font:normal 2em "trebuchet ms", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;}
#logo h2 {font-size:.8em; color:#DBD6CC;}
#logo img {float:left;}

Keep note that the logo container that everything sits in, has a dimensional height of 60px and a width of 320px. If you need to change this, you can do it in the location noted above in the css code.

Using Your Own Logo Set

If you decide to disable the default logo and text title and to use your own logo, you can do this from the control panel for Evening Shade. Keep note that your logo space gives you about 320px by 60px, but you can go as much as 70 in height. If you need more, you will need to edit the style sheet for the logo group. This option basically shuts down the default text based logo and puts in your own full logo image.

  1. Prepare your own logo image to be used and upload it to your site…you can use your WP Image Library for this, but copy the image URL once you uploaded it (you will need this in a moment)
  2. Go to your Evening Shade theme settings and click on the Logo panel to show the following parameters:

  3. Disable the default logo set
  4. Paste the URL of your logo image
  5. Type in a logo description (ALT)  – preferably something that will help you with search engines and type a short descriptive ALT using keywords.
  6. Click Save Changes
